A new document is asking Alberta to treat artificial intelligence as an economic plan and not a gadget purchase. It is called the Alberta AI Advantage blueprint, and you can find it at albertaaiadvantage.com.

Before anything else, here is what it is not. It is an independent document from Zak, the publisher of this site. It has no official status, it carries no government or industry endorsement, and it commits no public money. That is how its own landing page describes it, and it is the right place to start reading.

  • Format: a 27-page PDF, downloaded from the landing page
  • Structure: four pillars
  • Status: independent, no official standing, no funding commitments
  • Link: albertaaiadvantage.com

An independent blueprint gets read on its merits

Plans like this usually arrive with a logo from a ministry or a ribbon from an industry group. This one has neither, so it has to earn attention on the ideas alone. That is a harder test and a fairer one.

The page organizes the argument around four pillars. We are not going to summarize the contents of a document we cannot publish in full, and the PDF sits behind a sign-up. Read it and judge it yourself.

Alberta should want more of these

A province that wants to compete on AI needs people outside government writing down what they would do and putting their name to it. Whether you agree with every line matters less than whether the argument is specific enough to test. A blueprint that can be checked is worth more than a strategy that cannot.

Our view is simple. Read the document, check its claims against what you know of your own industry, and ask who pays for each recommendation. That last question is where any plan, ours included, gets honest.
